I was in Mr. X's English Class in 09!: A post from Kiara...

Hey man, its Kiara Lynch! (Year 10) In this boss teacher’s class {Mr Excell}, we have been learning about pop culture, it has been a great pleasure studying things about songs, their meaning and different interpretations the songs. Our class is awesome to be with, because we have different opinions about every topic that comes up. We have also been learning about inspirations and idols that many famous people have, just to see how they have grown up and lived their lives and how they have become an idol. One particular day, we went around the school taking pictures of different angles and views. Lately we have been researching songs that have a teenage issue in them and one of the main challenges has been writing a teenage issue song with our own wicked minds.

I was Year 10 in 09

In Term 3 my Year 10s began to look at popular culture, fads, icons and celebrities of the last few decades. From Marilyn Monroe to Marilyn Manson, The Beatles to The Red Hot Chilli Peppers and roller disco rinks to hip hop street culture! We are also looking at song lyrics, dance moves and music videos and their place in our own culture.

In Term 4 we dove into some classic gothic fiction tales such as Dracula and The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde and began comparing them to contemporary novels such as Twilight.

I was Year 9 in 09

Up, up and away! In Term 3, my Year 9's began investigating some of the world's most beloved comic book heroes. Why isn't Super Girl and Bat Woman aren't as popular as their male equivalents? Are girls just as tough as boys? Can boy's be sensitive nurses too? Should there be an all female AFL team? We will continue to uncover these and other tired, old gender stereotypes.

In Term 4 we looked at Television genres and wrote about Australian soapies Home and Away and Packed to the Rafters. We are working on the assignment of creating our own television shows that will appeal to a teenage audience.
