I was in Mr. X's English Class in 09!: A post from Cheyanne

I am in Mr Excell’s year 9 English class. We’ve been learning about superheroes and stereotypes. In class, we are creating our own superhero and making a TV show about them. Mr Excell’s class is awesome because we draw pictures and watch movies. Plus we also get to listen to music that we bring in instead of [EDIT] stuff like ABBA. We have heaps of fun and not do much work but somehow we still are learning along the way. I hope your English class is as fun as ours. If not, bad luck!!

I was Year 10 in 09

In Term 3 my Year 10s began to look at popular culture, fads, icons and celebrities of the last few decades. From Marilyn Monroe to Marilyn Manson, The Beatles to The Red Hot Chilli Peppers and roller disco rinks to hip hop street culture! We are also looking at song lyrics, dance moves and music videos and their place in our own culture.

In Term 4 we dove into some classic gothic fiction tales such as Dracula and The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde and began comparing them to contemporary novels such as Twilight.

I was Year 9 in 09

Up, up and away! In Term 3, my Year 9's began investigating some of the world's most beloved comic book heroes. Why isn't Super Girl and Bat Woman aren't as popular as their male equivalents? Are girls just as tough as boys? Can boy's be sensitive nurses too? Should there be an all female AFL team? We will continue to uncover these and other tired, old gender stereotypes.

In Term 4 we looked at Television genres and wrote about Australian soapies Home and Away and Packed to the Rafters. We are working on the assignment of creating our own television shows that will appeal to a teenage audience.
